Isle of Hope Homes for Sale

November 30, 2015 by Helen Miltiades

Isle of Hope Homes for Sale

On the western edge of the city of Savannah, you’ll find Isle of Hope. Isle of Hope lives among the waving marsh grasses of the beautiful Wilmington River estuary. Access to the mainland of Savannah and it’s educational institutions and medical facilities is easy, making this island quite popular with growing families and retirees.

The residents of Isle of Hope form a diverse, comfortable group. While the area’s median home price is roughly double that of Savannah as a whole, a surprisingly diverse array of housing choices ensures that middle class families can find a place to settle down here. The population here is slightly older than Georgia’s and is split evenly between males and females. Since many locals commute to downtown Savannah and work in professional capacities, the area’s median income is fairly high too.

Your seasoned Savannah Realtor can hook you up with condos, townhouses and bungalows. The island is surrounded by grassy marshes on four sides and offers deep-water boat dock access for most of its waterfront homes. Lots range in size from less than .2 acre to well over .5 acre, and many properties feature full-service, climate-controlled boathouses that double as guest houses or playrooms. Most of the island’s streets do allow two-way traffic, but speed limits are strictly controlled to promote walking and biking. Although it’s peaceful here, Isle of Hope enjoys energetic connections to mainland Savannah via Skidaway Road and LaRoche Avenue. Truman Parkway intersects with both of these roads and whisks locals to and from downtown Savannah, Savannah International Airport and the Abercorn Street shopping district.

Isle of Hope Homes for Sale The local schools here like Sea Islands High School and Savannah State University are superb. Local homeowners who don’t want to spend their free time on the water can visit the nearby Savannah Botanical Gardens or explore the extensive network of trails at Lake Mayer Park. Savannah Municipal Golf Course and Bacon Golf Course offer a one-two punch of golfing enjoyment within easy driving distance. There’s something for everyone here.

Isle of Hope, Savannah GA real estate offers fabulous opportunities for motivated homebuyers. At the same time, its housing market can change almost daily. House-hunters who want to find great deals here should turn to the professionals.

Vernonburg is a small town south of Savannah located in Chatham County Georgia. It’s a small, attractive residential village with large homes and beautifully landscaped gardens. It’s considered part of the Savannah Metropolitan area.

VErnonburg GA homes and real estate

First settled by German craftsmen in the mid-18th century, Vernonburg was incorporated in 1866 and by the early 19th century the town was a great little summer community for wealthy residents of Savannah. It’s just 10 miles from downtown Savannah and is a more quieter, residential community along the banks of the Vernon River. It is bordered by the neighborhoods of Windsor Forest, Southside and Paradise Park. Vernonburg residents still have a Savannah address.

The homes for sale sit along the Vernon River and are priced from about $400,000-$4 million. These large estates are some of the most exquisite and all of the Savannah area. Due to the low population in this area however, there are only about 2 to 10 properties for sale at any given time. Vernonburg stretches from White Bluff Road to the Vernon River. Lots are also available for custom building along the river and many homes boast a dock and boating abilities.

Larger estates can range over $2 million or more and typically will have over 5000 ft.² and multiple acres. You’re likely to find stately homes, luxury waterfront property and homes that include guest houses, multiple garages, and exterior amenities such as sports courts, garden, mother-in-law homes, porches, patios and luxury interior fixtures.

5 of Savannah’s Top Neighborhoods

June 12, 2015 by Helen Miltiades

Whether you’re moving from within the area or from out-of-state, we want to find the best neighborhood to fit your lifestyle, your budget, and your needs. Here are some of Savannah’s top five neighborhoods.

5 of Savannah’s Top Neighborhoods

South Central

The South Central area includes Ardsley Park, Washington Street and similar neighborhoods like Parkside. This is a diverse neighborhood full of boutique owners, young families, architects and unique four and five bedroom craftsman bungalows and mansions built around the 1920s. Ardsley Park is one of the landmarks in this neighborhood with beautiful ancient live oak trees, tree-lined streets, and stately mansions. It’s far enough away from the busyness of downtown to provide a peaceful and residential area. Children and families can walk or ride bikes to school and residents have easy access to the south side shopping malls, markets, and restaurants.

Midtown

This includes the neighborhoods of Habersham Woods and Mayfair. Here you will find mid-20th-century ranch homes with longer, quiet streets in the heart of the city. Residents are close to the YMCA, private and public schools, Memorial Stadium and two major hospitals. This middle-income family neighborhood is home to real estate agents, medical personnel, nurses and a variety of single, middle-aged residents and retirees.

Best Savannah neighborhoods

The South

This neighborhood includes the Landings at Skidaway Island and Wiley Bottom Road. This neighborhood is primarily a mix of wealthy retirees, corporate executives and affluent neighborhoods. You’ll find soccer moms, blue and white collar commuters, military families and more especially in the neighboring communities of Fort Stewart and Richmond Hill. This is a gated community on 6500 acres just 12 miles south of downtown Savannah. There are six golf courses, four clubhouses, and swimming pools. If you’re looking for the upscale neighborhood of Savannah, this is it.

Southeast

Along Bluff Drive is the neighborhood of the Isle of Hope. This is a riverfront community with good schools, a pedestrian-friendly environment and a good variety of renters and homeowners. If you’ve been looking for a waterfront community, this is it. There’s no commercial development except for the Marina; markets and restaurants are at least 3 miles away.

Historic Downtown

This central part of town is about 2.5 mi.² featuring old Victorian homes, park-like squares, and unique architecture. This is a great neighborhood for up and comers, professionals, artists, students and service industry professionals. It’s also a great place for a vacation or a second home and it provides an easy walk score to numerous shops, restaurants, boutiques, and entertainment in downtown.
