Savannah Music Festival

SAVANNAH MUSIC FESTIVAL – SAVANNAH GEORGIA

Do you like music?  Well, folks you have come to the right place.  Each year, the largest musical arts event is right here, in Savannah, GA.  It is one of the most famous music festivals in the world.Savannah Music Festival

Since 2003, the Savannah Music Festival has established a music education program second to none.  The organization’s belief is that the arts are fundamental to the development of all children.  These programs reach out to more than 20,000 youth each year throughout Savannah and the surrounding counties.

There are many ways to get involved with the Savannah Music Festival – patrons, interns, volunteers, and partner organizations are its lifeblood.

However, let us not forget the entertainment value of the Savannah Music Festival .  Unbelievable and unique artistic presentations are the mainstay of this group.  This non-profit music education program keeps the music playing.

Visit the box office to check on tickets.  The presentations last for weeks starting March 21, 2013.  Many of these shows and contests are free and housed by all kinds of Churches and facilities in town.  Come visit with us.

Valentines Day Events and Activities in Savannah

Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching and this Thursday lovers all over the city will be finding the most quaint and beautiful spots to celebrate their love. Here are some unique and time-honored traditions happening around Savannah Georgia for Valentine’s Day 2013:Valentines day events around Savannah GA

Are you into the outdoors? Come check out the Valentine’s Day paddle at Ebenezer Creek. On February 14, 9 AM to 1 PM, at just $40 per person, you and your sweetheart can enjoy the natural resources of the Georgia coastline. Explore natural habitats and tour secret hideouts along many of the waterways. None of these events are very strenuous but be sure to make reservations early.

If you would like to tie the knot on Valentine’s Day, join several other couples at The Davenport House Garden from 5 to 7. This venue is hosting ceremonies every 10 minutes and you can get married in the museum’s beautiful courtyard garden. This would certainly make it a Valentine’s Day to remember, and a local judge will officiate at all the weddings. All that is required is $100 donation to the museum per couple.

Perhaps you would just like to renew your marriage vows; there will be a marriage vow renewal ceremony held at 7 PM outside in the courtyard if the weather permits; if not join us at the City Market area.

The Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens is hosting a romantic Valentine wine and chocolate tasting from 7 to 9 PM.  Enjoy a local classical violinist as you engulf yourself in artisan chocolates and local wines. It is just $15 per person or $25 per couple and all proceeds benefit the construction of the Children’s Garden.

Happening February 14 through the 17th Masquers presents “Cactus Flower”, a romantic comedy for you and your Valentine. Join us at 7:30 PM at the Armstrong Jenkins Hall Black Box Theater. General admission is just $10 with the discounts to military, alumni, students and seniors.

If you are just looking for a fabulous night on the town there are several beautiful restaurants around Savannah offering Valentine’s Day courses and complete dinners.

Of course finally yet importantly is the fabulous Valentine’s Day dinner cruise from 6 to 9 PM at the Savannah Riverboat cruises. Share a romantic dinner for two onboard this classic riverboat. Enjoy a two-hour cruise, which includes a bottle of wine or champagne, roses, live entertainment and beautiful music.

No matter what you choose, Savannah is full of the most romantic Valentines experiences around.

Savannah’s Holiday Evening Tours by Candlelight

Experience Savannah’s Holiday Evening Tours by Candlelight

The world over knows that Savannah keeps the holiday traditions alive and well. This year, you can begin a holiday tradition of your own by taking part in the “Holiday Evening Tours by Candlelight.” This amazing event takes place nightly at 6:00 – 8:00 pm from December 26-30th.Davenport House Museum

Imagine strolling by candlelight through the Davenport House Museum. All around you are decorations styled after the 19th century Savannah experience. This beautiful museum, located at 324 E. State Street, is a fine example of the brick homes built on or near Columbia Square in the 1800’s.

Come prepared for an extensive walking tour that includes candle lit rooms and stairs. The 1820 home is a lovely example of southern architecture and appointed with amazing furnishings and decorations from the 19th Century. The owner has taken special care to reflect the Yuletide spirit that helped define Savannah and the South.

In addition to the many delights for your eyes, there will be light refreshments, live music, and skilled interpreters who will guide you through the home, informing you of the rich history and holiday traditions that Savannah enjoys.

This holiday season discover the joy and wonder of an old-fashioned Savannah Christmas by visiting the “Holiday Evening Tours by Candlelight” at the Davenport House.  Adults pay a general admission price of $8. Admission for children ages 6-17 is just $5. Children under six are free. Seniors, active military and AAA members receive a 10 percent discount. If you happen to be a member of the Past Partners National Trust for Historic Preservation, you will receive admission for just $6. Admission for groups of 10 or more people with advance reservations is $5 per person. Friends of the Davenport House and Friends of Historic Savannah Foundation receive free admission. Savannah Plays and Musicals

SAVANNAH’S “BROADWAY” ENTERTAINMENT –

Folks, this Holiday Season cannot go by without introducing you to one of the greatest forms of quality entertainment Savannah has.  It is SAVANNAH THEATRE (http://savannahtheatre.com/shows/).  Through out this festive Christmas and New Year’s celebration AND during the entire year, the troupe at this theatre provide extremely entertaining shows – musicals, plays, comedies, etc – given in the most professional Broadway-Style you can imagine.Savannah Christmas Plays

Having attended these shows many times, I can guarantee you will walk out with a smile on your face and a better attitude for the rest of the day.  Take your children, your parents, your friends, your employees, etc.  They will all be so thankful you have brought them to this magnificent display of Savannah-born talent; all of the actors and musicians live in the Savannah area and make this their career for all year long.  They are SO multi-talented and REAL LIFE people, you cannot believe that each show plays like a different group of professional entertainers.  They personally greet you as you leave the show.

What’s the Weather Like?

Savannah is known as a humid subtropical climate and the lows in January only reach about the mid-to upper 30s. Our hottest months are in August and September where it can get to be 90 and 95°. Record heats of over 100 are rare but can occasionally happen. The average temperature throughout the year, between 60 and 80°, is quite pleasant for most residents.
