Homes near Parks in Savannah GA
Having a Park close by may not be the priority for many homeowners in Savannah Georgia but for those with small children or those that enjoy an outing at the Park, being within walking distance from a local or neighborhood Park is vital to their health and well-being. You may not think that in downtown Savannah there are any parks as most of the land is industrial, retail, or commercial neighborhoods, but you might be surprised to know that there are three parks directly downtown and three just South of downtown, including numerous small squares and block parks.
The three major parks downtown are Telfair square, Lafayette Square, and Forsyth Park, and while these are the major ones, there are several smaller parks such as Washington Sq., Emmett Park right on the river, Warren square, Pulaski square, Madison Square, and Monterey square. The two largest are Emmett Park which is heavily wooded and borders the River Street marketplace and shrimp factory, and Forsyth Park which is in the heart of downtown. Enormous Forsyth Park is home to several sports courts, tennis courts, wooded and grassy areas, and over 30 acres in the historical district of Savannah. In addition to its beautiful grounds it also offers a café, children’s playground area, walking path, large fountains, home field for the Savannah Shamrocks Rugby Club, and a beautiful Fragrant Garden for the Blind.
In the downtown area, homes start at about $220,000 and can reach as high as 2 million for designer condominiums and investment opportunities. Houses that border Forsyth Park are townhomes and single-family homes between $350,000 and $600,000. There are also some beautiful lots, believe it or not, perfect for investment income or building. Most of the homes near Forsyth Park will be historical or vintage-style homes of two-stories with one or two baths and upstairs bedrooms.
A little farther South from Forsyth Park in the Midtown neighborhood, are several parks such as Ardsley Park, Daffin Park, Hull Park and smaller circles and squares such as Baldwin, Guckenheimer, Hedeman, and Nathaniel Green Park. The largest in this area is Daffin Park. Bordered by Victory Drive to the North, Washington Avenue on the South, Waters Avenue on the West and Bee Rd to the east, this residential community Park offers hiking, road biking, bird watching and historical sites, picnicking, a dog park area, sports courts, play equipment. It is also home to Grayson Stadium, the home field of the Savannah Sand Gnats minor league baseball team, the Class-A affiliate of the New York Mets. To top it all off, this park has a beautiful gazebo in the center of the lake surrounded by fountains, swimming pools, and basketball courts.
Homes around Daffin Park are a little less expensive starting at about $200,000 and averaging about $240,000. Most of the homes are located South and Southwest of the Park with a 2 to 4 block walk. The majority of these homes are single-family houses of 2 to 3 bedrooms and around 1500 to 2000 ft.² in size.
