Poplar Place (University Park) Downtown Savannah GA
Poplar Place, or University Park, is located in downtown Savannah just South of Lynes Parkway, West of Abercorn Street and North of Perimeter Road or Hampstead Avenue. It’s a small community that includes the Savannah Technical College with an average listing price of around $121,000. The median sales price is $78,000 but what’s exciting is the rate of increase in this area. Over the last month prices in University Place have jumped 17% whereas the average listing price over the last year has jumped 11%.
This is a great location if you’d like to be just outside the major downtown area but still within a short drive or even a walk or bicycle-ride to shops, restaurants and downtown. Just East of White Bluff Road are several industrial, commercial and retail outlets such as OfficeMax, bookstores, Starbucks and grocery markets. The Bonefish Grill, Pier 1 Imports, LensCrafters and the Atlanta Bread Company are also located within this neighborhood.
Many people choose University Park as an ideal place to live because of the affordable home prices, quaint residential neighborhoods and literally walking distance to a variety of daily necessities. Downtown Savannah is just several blocks away as is the river, museums and entertainment of Savannah.
Poplar Place has a population of about 530 residents and covers an area of .25 mi². The median rent is about $750 which is a little higher than Savannah overall. Other demographics include average household size which is 2.7 people and the percentage of married couples with children are little higher, at 42.5%, than are in the general vicinity of Savannah, which is only 29%.
The majority of homes in Poplar Place and University Park were built after 2005 and there are very few homes built before the 1940s. Chances are, many of these homes have either been restored or will soon be torn down for new homes to be built.
