Just across the Skidaway Narrows is a lovely park that features a salt marsh, a maritime forest, and commanding views of the Intracoastal Waterway. Best of all, the island is fairly brimming with wildlife! Here visitors can marvel to the sites and sounds of raccoon, egrets, deer, fiddler crabs and an amazing array of birds that fill the island with their joyful songs.
The campground is well appointed and lies beneath live oaks and Spanish moss. Whether you choose to rough it in the pioneer campground or in the more developed camping areas of the island, you will create your own nature experience.
All together, there are 87 tent, trailer and RV campsites. There are three pioneer campgrounds for groups. You can rent a picnic shelter for a modest fee or even a group shelter that will accommodate 150!
The park also features an interpretive center that will delight bird watchers and keep children entertained for hours. Your children will love seeing the amazing 20-foot giant Ground Sloth statue and the fascinating reptile room.
It is time to get back outside and enjoy the beautiful Georgia spring! Savannah offers you all that you could ask for in southern urban living but keeps you close to some of the nation’s most beautiful natural parks!
