What’s the Weather Like?
Savannah is known as a humid subtropical climate and the lows in January only reach about the mid-to upper 30s. Our hottest months are in August and September where it can get to be 90 and 95°. Record heats of over 100 are rare but can occasionally happen. The average temperature throughout the year, between 60 and 80°, is quite pleasant for most residents.
The Neighborhoods
Savannah divides into more than 100 distinct communities in six principal areas of the city: Downtown, Midtown, Southside, Eastside, Westside, and Southwest/West Chatham. There are dozens of historical buildings and landmarks in the four downtown Districts of Victorian, Mid-City (Thomas Square), Pin Point, and Cuyler-Brownsville.
Education
Savannah has four colleges and universities in the area: Armstrong Atlantic State University, Savannah State University (home of several registered historical buildings), South University, and the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). In addition to being quality institutions of higher learning, they have played major roles in the development and preservation of the City of Savannah. Numerous high schools, middle schools, elementary schools, charter schools, and private schools provide many quality choices.
Activities
Known for its historical landmarks and traditions, Savannah has several museums and architectural historic churches located throughout the city. In addition to these, there are parks and recreational facilities. Whether it’s fall festivals, sports events for kids of all ages, senior center services, or youth programs, the Savannah Georgia Parks and Recreation Department is here to provide enjoyment for the community.
