‘Tis the Season to be merry and bright and Savannah knows how to do it up right. While the majority of the country is deep in snow or ice, Savannah is bringing the winter wonderland to the locals. Skatefest 2013 starts on December 14 through January 4 and is just $7 per session or $35 for a six-session pass.Winter Wonderland at Savannah’s Civic Center

This month-long celebration offers public ice-skating and there are 4 to 6 sessions a day that last about an hour and half. The rink will be open all month long with the exception of December 20 and Christmas day. This also includes your skate rental and it’s open to families, all ages and all sizes.

In a recent article by DoSavannah, about 35,000 to 40,000 people attend according to the director of the Savannah Civic Center. In addition to the skate center, they have a 15 foot Christmas tree in the lobby and two 12 foot trees and the Nutcracker out front. The director, Lamont Holman, wants everyone to have fun and create a positive experience during the holiday season. With so many unique events, bright and seasonal decorations as well as fun family events at the skate rink, you’re sure to get in the holiday mood.

Other holiday events happening around Savannah Georgia is the Muppet Christmas Carol which will be screening on December 13 at the Lucas Theater. Admission is by donation to either America’s Second Harvest or to the Humane Society.

Other events include the Holiday Tour of Homes and Victorian Tea December 14 and 15th which are starting at 11 AM. Residents of the historic district tend to decorate their homes in period style, with greenery and candles, so you won’t want to miss this unique holiday tradition.

Don’t miss the Homegrown Holiday Hoedown which focuses on the last 12 months of local music around the Savannah area. On December 14, “longtime fans and folks who have yet to catch the fever can experience it all firsthand at the third annual homegrown holiday hoedown at the American Legion Post 135 ballroom.” This celebration is a local and regional collection of Americana All-Stars complete with food, libations and charitable holiday cheer.
